  • The Elgin stands 6,000 ft up in the Himalayas — in the heart of Darjeeling town — offering a unique blend of colonial legacy and modern hospitality. 

    Legacy & Heritage

    • The building dates back to 1887 and was originally the summer manor of the Maharaja of Cooch Behar, later leased to British families.

    • Over time, it has been carefully restored to preserve its “manor-house / royal-residence” feel — complete with Burma teak furniture, oak floorboards and paneling, lithographs and etchings, fireplaces, chandeliers, vintage décor and even a grand piano.

    • Walking into The Elgin is often described as stepping back into the British Raj / colonial era, but with the comforts expected by modern travellers.

    • The hotel has ~ 25 double rooms and 3 suites.

    • Rooms vary from “Deluxe” to “Attic / Premium Attic / Suites” — many with sloping roofs, wood walls/floors, king-size beds (in higher categories), and period-style decor.
